Reverse shoulder replacement surgery
Hello. I am due to have a reverse shoulder replacement surgery next month. I am wondering whether to go ahead as since seeing the surgeon and surviving the long waiting list 2 things have happened. I have been made redundant and someone told me about cannabis oil cream.
I now find my pain is much more manageable. I rarely take my Naproxen. I still have limited mobility, but my surgeon advised that the main outcome of the proposed surgery would be pain relief. My other shoulder often aches more than the one to be replaced.
Does anybody out there have experience of this surgical procedure. Apparently I need the reverse because I have a cyst in my bone. I don't know what to do. I have been waiting years for this and now I'm wondering if I need it. Or do I risk having 2 duff shoulders.?
Am I just a wimp ?

Hello @JJM and welcome to the forum.
Here is some information about shoulder replacements from the VA website.
I did a search of the forum for similar posts and the link to those discussions is below.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to question the need for surgery if you are having doubts, are you able to get another appointment with the surgeon to chat through the changes in your pain levels?
best Joanne

Hello JJM.
If you click on the search symbol at the top right of this page you will find a list of topics. Rversed shoulder replacement is among the links, with plenty of input from people who have had this procedure.
I am one of them, having the surgery about 5 years ago. Functionally the outcome is great and I have a good range of movement thanks to support fron physiotherapists for a full year (all NHS). There is residual discomfort from time to time but not enough to drive me to use pain-killers. For me it was the only answer to problems that would have increased with time and I have no regrets.
It's a big decision that demands commitment to a long, slow recovery and which only you can take. I hope some of what has been posted here helps you in deciding whether to proceed.
Best wishes!
