I save some pain relief for close to bedtime. I have a neck pillow shoulder pillow and knee pillow.
I also take a lightweight kindle to bed as I can hold it one handed to read and distract myself if I wake up and hopefully lull me back off.
Never eat too close to bed nor drink any caffeinated drink.
Doesn't always work of course, but that's the plan😊
Take care

My GP prescribed Codeine, suggested I take 2 before bed, they would reduce the pain and make me drowsy. And that does work to some degree, but of course there are downsides - I then need to take a laxative to prevent constipation and I can't take too many codeine as they are an opioid and therefore addictive. So I don't take them very often, just once in a while when I have become VERY grumpy through lack of sleep! I have no trouble falling asleep, but staying asleep for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time is a definite problem for me. I wish there was an easy answer for sleep……

Hi @Stuartknee
My father has bad arthritis and he invested in an orthopaedic mattress and seems to find it helps a lot with pain while in bed. It may be worth looking into, although I do know they can be expensive.

Hi @Stuartknee
I have had too many sleepless nights due to pain and my go to is get up and see if I need the bathroom, it's sometimes that simple. If I can't get back to sleep I go downstairs and make a mug of hot chocolate and potter round for a few minutes, do a jigsaw (very therapeutic and takes your mind off pain then once my hot chocolate is gone I stickmy walkman on with the headphones in, listen to Classic Fm and relax on the sofa. I usually then get back to sleep for a couple of hours.
Just pottering really helped prior to my hihp replacement.
Hope you find something that works for you

I tried co codamol 500mg 40 codeine It worked for a bit but I couldnt continue with it as I suffer with IBS. My GP put me on Naproxen but that didnt work, then she tried Tramadol 50mg but said no co codamol with it. So back Ibuprofen 400mg but the side effects were bad, so off tramadol still taking Ibuprofen. Just have take more vitamins to help soothe IBS.
