Hurrah!!! So, on the 6th of November I go in for my surgery. I live in Penzance, but the surgery is 6 hours away. My wife and son will accompany me to Oswestry. I asked my Doctor to refer me to Col Meyer of the Veterans knee and hip replacement service at the Robert Jones and Angus Hunt Orthopaedic hospital. That was on the 24th of May. I’ve been up there twice now to see Col Meyer and his team and I’ve never seen a hospital like it, it is so modern and spotlessly clean. If your a Veteran, Navy, Army or RAF get in touch, I’m am so glad I did, hopefully I’ll back to work in January.
I will keep you all updated.

Well I live up this way (ish) and that hospital is well-known for doing excellent orthopedic surgery so @ExTanky763 I am so very pleased for you. I hope you have located a good hotel for your wife and sone to stay in until you feel fit enough to travel home.

    Best of luck

wishing you lots of luck with your surgery. I had my THR in 2016 and all went very well. Make sure you get all the equipment in place for when you go home - raised loo seat, elephants feet to raise the sofa, 2 pairs of litter pickers (one upstairs and one down), sock puller uppers (unless you have a helper). My recovery was great and was driving at 7 weeks. Did physio for 8 months - the longer the better.

Hip replacement update. All done and back home. I had my hip replacement on Wednesday 30th October here in Cornwall as there was a cancellation. The hospital (St Michael’s) is only 6 miles from my home which is absolutely brilliant for me. I’m now using both crutches as I’m feeling a bit stiff but there is hardly any pain. I’ve been using my litter picker, sock aid and my extra long shoe horn. I’m so grateful and over the moon it’s finally done. My litter picker can clip onto my crutch so it’s there all the time. I’ve got to see my specialist in December then hopefully back to work in January. Thank you everyone for all your kind comments and hints, I’ll keep you updated.

Hi @ExTanky763 I'm glad to hear you are pleased with your surgery. Having the hospital closer is very convenient. 6 hours of car is maybe too much at the beginning. Stiffness will disappear soon. I hope you have a fantastic recovery.

Good to hear you are getting it done. I had both mine done this year and am well on the way to full recovery.

I exercise my legs in the car on any journey longer than half an hour. Heel lifts, toe lifts, knee raises and bends as well as buttock squeezes. It keeps the blood flowing well.

You will need to get advice about the home return journey. I would be stopping every hour to walk around.

I hope all goes well for you and wish you a good recovery. I won't say speedy because it isn't but 12 weeks is full healing from the operation itself and by six months the difference is amazing.
