Just wondering if it would be beneficial to wear knee support. If so, what type.

Let me know your opinions/thoughts.

    Depends what for @Dutch50.

The general rule of thumb is to limit their use as the constant compression can be damaging, nonetheless I wore them regularly in the early stages of my diagnosis to help prevent my knees giving way and provide support during physio and exercise, etc.

My advice is to visit an independent pharmacy which have a far bigger range than the high street chains plus a consultation room to try a few on for fit and comfort. I generally favour longer, elasticated ones and a far sturdier support with a knee cutout and velcro straps for heavier duty exercise such as hiking and running. A side benefit is if you use topical creams and gels, the supports aid absorption and prevent trousers from getting mucky and discoloured.

    Hope this helps,

    Jon

    Hi @Dutch50

I'm also trying to find out if a knee support would help. I'm on a 2 year waiting list for knee replacement. I wear an elasticated knee support at present but still walk with a limp and this has caused muscle wastage to my thigh and calf as I favour my left leg. I've read a number of medical reports suggesting that a knee brace could be beneficial. Unfortunately despite trying to get in contact with the orthopaedics who put me on the waiting list he hasn't responded. I'm seeing an NHS physio this week about another matter and I'm going to ask him about it. There's a large number of products out there for a whole variety of different conditions so I'd rather get proper medical advice before buying one. You could pay anything from £40 to £2000 for a brace.
