tiredness
I know I need to exercise and should do strength exercises with resistance bands and also balance exercise because I am now prone to falls but I really can't find the energy. I decide at what time of day am going to exercise and I know how important it is for me but I really can't do it. I am 76 and recovering from a broken arm after a fall, and have been waiting for a tkr for 6 years because I just cannot get my BMI under 37 and can now barely barely walk. I'm not feeling sorry for myself just so frustrated with all the things that are taking away my independence. I have osteo, cero negative and reactive arthritis I am told. Any advice please?

Welcome @Iwillsucceed48 to the online community
With a username like that you are half way there already! You are three quarters of the way there when you describe the mental preparations you are doing so now it is the BIG step forward to actually doing it. Easy for me to say so maybe you need to have someone to do it with? If not someone beside you how about a virtual friend?
There is a great exercise programme called Lets Move with Leon. He and his mother Janet work through a series of exercises that you can join in with. Select all or which ones you think will be the most beneficial , start slowly and with their company you could succeed !
I started with them a while ago and find them fun.
We are glad you found us and I am sure there are plenty of members who have been in the same place as you and can offer their own motivational tips to help get you started. So good luck and let us know how you get on.
Take care

The balance and strength exercises I was talking about are Leon's, and I was doing them but have ground to a halt over the last few months. I think it is partly emotional as well as mental, people have started telling me I'm frail, I shouldn't do some things and it's makes me feel weary. I know I'm not as able as I was and I'm just getting miserable about it . Very worried about waiting for much longer because of BMI. Hey Ho, will keep trying. Thanks for listening.

Getting down to a healthy BMI will help so much. You wont believe how much better you feel. You actually only need to lose 5 per cent of your body weight intially to get some benefits. Ive lost 4 stone so I know. I also know how hard it is! I think for every pound you lose you also lose 4 pounds of pressure from your knees and 6 from hips. I noticed my hips improved after my first half stone. It will help with balance too. Tyring to do everything diet, excersise ect can be overwhelming. I cant advice on what to do but I found weight loss helped first. I found a support group, Ive done "Chance to change" and Weight watchers. Currently go to slimming world. Even though I am at target I still go. I have found all supportive and its been helpful being accountable and sharing each others triumphs and the bad times too. I dont think I could do it on my own personally. Ive enjoyed getting awards for my first half stone ect along the way. I do quite a bit of exercise now also. I totally get the concern about losing independance, I hope you fight hard to keep it, I am sure you will succeed. Take care of yourself xx

Thanks all.
Iwannaeme - I have been going to Slimming World since before the pandemic and lost 3.5 stones which I have kept off for 2 years +. I still could do with losing 2 stone more minimum but have lost heart. I haven't been for a few weeks now and am thinking of rejoining but hubby moans such a lot about sw food I'm not sure what to do as I have to ask him to drive me there and back also he is beginning to have trouble with his night sight. Goodness don't I sound a moaning Minnie - sorry.
Will be back when a bit more cheerful. Bye for now.

I'm back. Feeling a bit more positive. Joined sw on-line over the weekend - decided give it another go. I don't expect much of a loss this week as I had already shopped so will have to work with what I have in the cupboards. Saw physio this afternoon and explained I hadn't been doing my exercises because of a flare up but he checked how my mobility was and was pleased with me saying I had improved a lot so that made me feel better too.
Will be going to my Move It Or Lose It class tomorrow so I think I may be on the up now and will try Leon on Wednesday.
Thanks for your encouragement.
