Hello,

I have had 2 doses of methotrexate (10mg) via injection. About 4 hours later I start to feel poorly and feel very sick and get jelly legs. I have spoken to the nurse and they said it is not unusual to feel this way. I am taking folic acid 6 days a week too. Has anyone else felt like this? Advice on when it will all ease?

Thank you

Thank you so much for this Chrissy, I have been so worried about when this will pass. Hope you are ok - thank you. I increase to 20mg next week.

  • I started taking the tablet form 20mg and am on week 4 now, I also felt very poorly after taking it and found the first two doses laid me low for 3 days with tiredness, headaches, nausea and upset tummy but as my body has begun to used to the methotrexate the side effects are reducing. Bear with it but if you are riding it all too much phone your Rhumatology hotline as they can prescribe anti sickness tablets if needed. I hope you feel better as you move through the treatment.

I am also on the Methotrexate injection and felt very ill at first, as though I had flu. However, my body seems to have got used to it, which took a few weeks. Now I just have an upset stomach for about 1 1/2 days but otherwise, I am fine. I hope you feel better soon.

I have been injecting for some time and get no effects like you but be aware that Methotrexate can cause Fatigue. I had an issue recently with a change of meds from my Cardiologist which made me very ill. That issue was resolved but it set off my RA and I have have had fatigue since mid August. Rheumatologist has reduced my Methotrexate down to 15mg in an effort to help with the fatigue, I have noticed a slight improvement but have some way to go to get back to where I was pre August.
