Triple joint fusion surgery

After years of trying to make my mind up whether or not to go for this surgery, mainly because of the long recovery involved especially as I am 70 and live alone. I am due to go for surgery at the end of January, however I am really still not sure whether to go ahead. I have mid foot arthritis in both feet, I have already had knee replacements and I have lower back issues. My mobility is generally poor but not only because of the arthritis in my feet but everything else going on and because of this really wonder if surgery will improve my mobility, somehow I think not, the pain will go but the other issues remain. I am getting so stressed over this and just cannot seem to make a decision. One half of me thinks I should carry on as I am, I still take the dog for a walk and get about albeit slowly or shall I have it done and hope it improves my mobility. Has anyone else been in this situation or had the surgery.

Hi @Helena55 have you made a decision yet? Hopefully whatever you choose will be best for you, but I can understand the dilemma. Anyone out there who has been in similar situation?

  • hi Helena. I’ve had an ankle fusion 11 yrs ago. Pretty pleased with it. Can walk 5-6 miles. (Had a replacement on other ankle). Please ask me any questions.
