thanks for letting me join the group. I suffered with hip and back pain for a number of years but only recently been diagnosed with

  • Advanced osteoarthritic changes in the left hip, milder changes on the right side.. And I’m now waiting on hospital for an appointment with the consultant, and to go on the list for hip replacement

: lower back left trochanteric

  • pain . ? OA lumbar spine, ?oA hip
  • XR Lumbar spine: L4 pars defect leading to a grade 1 verging on
  • grade 2 spondylolisthesis of L4 on L5. Severe degeneration in the
  • mid to lower level facet joints. Evidence of direct articulation is
  • seen between the posterior spinous processes of L2/3 and L4/5. Disc
  • degeneration throughout, generally mild but more marked at L5/S1.
  • Vertebral body heights are maintained. Bone texture is uniform.
  • XR PelvisL Advanced osteoarthritic changes in the left hip, milder
  • changes on the right side.

So any advice on living with osteoarthritic including living with the Pain would be appreciated many thanks in advance.

Morning @ERPG Lovely to meet you.

I think you have just shown my own scan results!😉

Seriously though I am so glad you've found us this is a really incredibly supportive community. Particularly recently for those who have OA in their hips. I call them the hippies.

I was thinking you might be needing to consider surgical options for your hip and if you do there are several fabulous threads to read by (I'll list as many as I can remember) @Janlyn @Nurina @alwayssewing @Trish9556 to name but a few they are so worth a read.

Do let us know how you get on I hope you don't have to wait too long for your appointment.

    Take care

Your post reminds me that arthritis is not just pain, it is all those joints as well.

I still think in terms of how fragile we are, and how gently out pains need treating, otherwise the pain and the damage just increase, so thats my favourite advice, go gently.

Stay strong and i follow one food routine that helped me lot in my RA JOURNEY ..

I am from south india so horse gram dhal is from my mom's kitchen and my one of the favourite dhal.i went to work where staying in hostel so I had horse gram dhal continuously for one month and surprised when casually weighting myself lost 5 kgs.!and found I am stiffness free and cold tolerant,no pain as it used to be..(home mom cooks once in while so here I cooked daily and it surprised me indeed)

With your doctors suggestion you can eat 100 gm a day and it's water has more protein.. so please refer doctor and if he said fine then have it !

I am planning to post all these tips and foods that help me in ra journey @ari_yora insta page where i thought I may help people like you so yes.. please don't feel hesitant please feel free to reach if any doubts

And yeah you can have by boiling it and add little salt it tastes plain and good

BUT ASK DOCTOR(I grown up eating that so it suited me I doubt whether people outside india ever ate or know about this so that's why saying so)

    Hi @ERPG

I had surgery on my C6/7 prior to my hip going in 2023 but my hip failing - I had suffered neck problems since 2013 so a long time fixing.

Had my hip surgery in May this year and it's now doing really well, like you, my other one shows OA so I'm hoping that lasts as long as possible.

I hope you are being seen by a good orthopaedic surgeon for both your back and hips - it's a shame there isn't one that can fix both. Please drop me a message or tag me if you need anything
