Painful days

Hi I'm a new member and I wanted to join to chat with people in the same situation. I've had Rheumatoid arthritis for 26 years and it's been quite a ride of ups and downs, new adjustments and altering completely how I live my life now. My whole world changed a year ago when I had to give up my much loved job to a life of days with no structure to them, bored stiff and no every day interactions with my colleagues. I'm not the Happy person I was and it's really hard to not work as I've worked all my adult life. I'm restricted on what I can do now because of pain and it is hard but I'm hoping to connect with others so I don't feel so alone.

Hello @candlegirl welcome to the online community

Living with RA for such a long time will give you a wealth of experience and no doubt lots of tips that you could share with others on this safe and friendly community. We are glad you found us and hope that you will find among the range of discussions and activities somethings that interest you.

There is the daily conversation among friends in Val's Cafe, categories under the titles of sports and hobbies, exercise videos, food and diet, meditation and mindfulness, as well as the many questions and discussions that are asked by new and existing members.

On the wider VA website there are campaigns to join, monthly activities with the Lets Move team like step challenges, knitting marathons .

I hope you find some areas of interest and it may be that someone suggests a tip about they deal with their pain that you might think of trying. There is a wealth of information and experience in the community and we hope that you will join in and share your own tips and knowledge with us.

We look forward to hearing from you again soon.

    Take care

    Poppyjane

    Hi @candlegirl

I retired from a much loved job too. I tend to do hydrotherapy for exercise, try to learn a new craft and do it for sometime- I learnt loom knitting (easier than normal knitting with painful hands), loom weaving, quilting, quilling and other paper crafts. Currently learning watercolours.

I’m not talented or anything but just enjoy it and do it at my pace.

I also love gardening though my husband does all the hardwork 😂

I want to learn BSL and maybe some other language (I’m awful at languages but no harm trying)

There is so much to learn and do

    Have fun with it

    Morning @candlegirl

I can sincerely sympathise with you life changing without a job anymore to.

I have joined a local walking group and attend when and if I am able they are all mature but they do look after me and if no walking lots of talking.

I also joined a art group which on a good day again is fabulous (not picasso) but again on bad day just nice to meet and chat.

I joined local Arthritis group who meet monthly again just meeting people in same or similar position makes me feel better.

Maybe see what is going on in your local community.

Best wishes and keep posting you are not alone 😘
