Hi friends

Can anyone tell me when they could lie on their hip ?

I got mine in May this year but still feel I cannot lie on it - feels bumpy .

I mostly lie on back & sometimes on right side (currently waiting to get that 1 done ) but can be sore when lying down thanks in advance 🙃

A couple of friends in their early 80’s reckon two replacement hips each is a (‘clangy’) when the get in bed ha ha. I pointed out they were lucky to be so friendly…….!

Perhaps an exercise change to give you a plumper shape might exist? Said in jest but it may help?

    It’s a grin, honest!

My left hip is 27 years old now and since op ive never managed to lay on that side since.

  • Could you self refer to a physiotherapist ? We can at our gp practice. They may be able to help.

I've had both mine done this year (February and May), now and again I can still feel them. I was able to build up how long I could lie on each side.

  • Probably muscles and tendons around the hip are still weak and stiff and that side has lost "cushioning". A physiotherapist would recommend you what exercises of stretching and strengthening you have to do.

@anxioussarah I can't remember exactly when I stopped worrying about lying on my operated hip. I was told I was allowed to do so after a couple of weeks if I was careful. But I was far too scared and just used to lie on my side for a couple of minutes as a bit of relief from being on my back. But eventually I realised I was able to sleep on my side without worrying, although occasionally I can now feel what I can only describe as a bony bit, it doesn't hurt but I can definitely feel it. Maybe a very soft pillow under your hip could help?

    Take care.
