Newly diagnosed

Hi I recently got diagnosed in September. Was a shock saw the consultant for first time. He said sory to say you have rheumatoid arthritis. I was in shock . Started sulfasalazine my choice did not want mtx. Been on medication 2 weeks I have 2 swollen fingers on my left hand . 1 swollen finger on mu right hand . They not hurting have not been since before diagnosis. My rf was high and anti cpp. Though all other inflamation markers OK. Crp is 5 . I carnt stop thinking could I have been misdiagnosed. Struggling to come to terms with this . I work and when my fingers do hurt it hurts I do feel tired alot but I put that down to peri menopausal . Did everybody else feel like me when got diagnosed. I see alot if people struggle to get diagnosis and me I get it fast from going docs in march to rule it out I thought I had repetive strain in my fingers . Doc wanted to rule out ra . To September I have sero positive rheumatoid arthritis .sory for the long rant I'm just so struggling with this diagnosis

Hi @Darkchilliechoc and a massive welcome to our online community.

It can be difficult to accept a new diagnosis, especially one that has no cure. However if you feel you may have been misdiagnosed I would suggest speaking to your rheumatologist again. Were your CRP levels higher before you started this medication? If so, it could be that the meds are starting to work which is why your blood tests are appearing more "normal" but it would definitely be worth speaking to your consultant again to be sure.

    All the best, Claudia x
