Hi

I recently took my dog to the vets for his annual booster and was asked if anyone was immuno-suppressed. I take methoject every week for my arthritis and this means my immune system is suppressed but I'm not sure what to do if I get them the vaccine?

How does it affect me if my dogs have the kennel cough vaccination?

Can anyone help with this

    Hi @lms4278

Thanks for posting on the Online Community. We completely understand your concerns with having a suppressed immune system and therefore being concerned around your pets having vaccinations that may be live vaccines like the kennel cough vaccination.

From information we have found, there may be concern that giving a pet a modified live vaccine might result in a person being exposed to the same modified bacterium or virus, but unfortunately as we are not medically trained, we are unable to give more information or guidance about this. We would suggest speaking to your rheumatologist or calling your rheumatology nurse for the most current advice around this. Also asking your vet what their guidelines are.

Hope you are able to find the answers you need, as I am sure you want your pets to be protected.

    Best wishes

    Hi @lms4278

I had a similar discussion with my vet last month and posted here about it.

On my follow up I found I'd been given slightly incorrect information - the kennel cough vaccination isn't a 2 stage process. The two stage process was for a new version of the leptosperosis vaccine. The rest of the detail is correct though.
