THR - what help will I need?

so glad to here that you have had your surgery and it all went well. Try not to worry too much as they will not send you home until they know that you can do things for yourself. If you don't feel safe on sticks perhaps they can give you crutches instead? I found them more stable. Have you been given aids to help you when home? If you tell them how you feel they may keep you in for further observation especially as you will be home alone. All the best.🙂

@Fran54 I am going to ask for crutches. They would prefer me to.go tomorrow! There is no chance I would get any more time as they think it has all gone well blood results all good. I.think.i will find crutches more stable. Someone will stay for a few days. In truth the whole thing is one of my worst nightmares!! I am not a good patient.

I found with crutches that I felt more stable and confident and with my "grabbers" they were a godsend! I am still using them now for certain things. I also just tried to take one day at a time and concentrated on doing only the essentials and taking my time over doing things, especially when going up and down stairs for the first few times. It is good that you do have someone staying with you for a couple of days and can help you organise things for when you are on your own. You will need plenty of patience but gradually each day will get better and small things conquered will be a massive confidence booster.🤗

Thanks @Fran54 I have my legs even, no discrepancy. For months there were almost 5cm of difference. Now I still have the strange gait I've had for months to compensate for the limp. It'll take time to fix it. How are things with you?

@Nurina @distantshores lovely to hear you're both 'out the other side' - well done both of you.
@Nurina it's so good you're through this now and know what to expect and can work towards a full recovery and getting back to a proper life. Take care and keep us updated!
@distantshores I hope you start to feel better and stronger soon. Please try not to worry about going home - you've planned it all and they won't let you go unless you're safe. The first couple of days are so strange but I found I quickly started to gain confidence once home and used to my surroundings. Take care and let us know how you go on.

@Fran54 They have given me crutches now which feels more stable but I can't do stairs. Physio says I am physically capable of doing stairs but psychologically I just can't. I have moved downstairs anyway so won't need to go up.
@Janlyn am hoping it will improve but wish I could have found rehab unit to stay in. Would have been willing to pay but couldn't find anywhere.

@distantshores Good morning! I hope you feel better today and they send you home. I was very scared of my home stairs, so I understand your concerns. You shouldn't be afraid climbing up and down so just do it when you feel confident and with someone with you. You'll be ready sooner than you think. Crutches will be your friends. Trust them.
I've arrived home today. Everything seems much easier than it used to be with my other leg. I'm happy to be here. I'm exhausted and still a little bit dizzy but I can't be happier. This is the beginning of my new life.

so glad that you are now home and feeling happy and positive about the future. Like you I found that my right leg was shorter than my left and was told that my hip had dropped, which gave me the" Trendelenburg" gait. It has taken a while with sheer determination and physio to get to the stage now at 5 months post hip replacement I am walking with a normal gait most of the time during the day, but if I overdo things by the end of the day I sometimes do limp a bit. But apart from that I have so much more energy now and am getting out and walking more. I will have to have my other hip replaced but not yet ( I have received an appointment for April 2025 ) to discuss this and probably to check my progress since the operation.
Please keep us updated with your progress.🙂

@Fran54 It's great you have your legs more even now and you have more energy. I hope in April 25 they say you don't need another replacement. Take care x
