Does anyone find their joints hurt more when it's cold weather?

My knee is hurting more today, with more cold weather to come, I would appreciate some advice xx

Hi I can only speak for myself but yes I find the colder/damp weather does affect my joints. I have recently had my right hip replaced and with my new hip I am pain free at the moment which is great. However I am due to have my other hip done and am getting aches in my left knee up towards my hip. In the past I used a wheat bag which I heated up in the microwave and did help and I also have a Tens machine. I have used over the counter gels but they only give temporary relief.

Are you using any aids to help? I hope that you get some relief soon. 🙂

Brought a knee sleeve to keep my knee warm, just waiting for delivery. Think I need a new wheat bag though.

I am on a fat burning diet, and I have a theory that my joints ache whenever I am losing weight (about 1kg).

Right now my weight is stable and my joints are not aching so who knows. Have you lost weight?

No, my weight has been stable for a while.

    Hi @Dutch50

    have you seen this?

Interesting I think a member here @Airwave! took part in the study although I might be wrong.

    Best wishes

Bang goes my weight loss theory of pain.

I had both knees painful at one time, or to be more exact, swollen and limited movement so if I moved them there was pain and if I moved them too far, there was even more pain. It was my worst mobility nightmare come true and took a while to settle down. I had to learn to shuffle and how to rest.

I learnt a number of things, one was the worst possible action was to stand on them for a long period, and walk too far, as I would then gain a flare up. You might feel this yourself, when you stand still its not possible to stand still for very long without feeling rather uncomfortable and having to shift from one foot to the other.

My favourite rest is to sit stlill all weekend unless I have to go into another room, this does a power of good both resting and a bit of moving but not too much.

Against the cold I rather like throwing a dressing gown on and off.

My other is to lie down and have a stretch sometimes under a throwover. Invariably all the tension goes and the joints and muscles can get some movement that feels good, no idea why it feels so good. Then I can relax, and best of all I can fall asleep and catch up on rest. This arthritis seems to drain strength like a plughole.

Good warm clothes, heavy duty thermal underwear, warm wool socks make a difference for me. Uniqlo do some fleece lined trousers which I'm now switching over to for winter! I lived in them through last winter. I find them just as warm and more comfortable than wearing long johns under trousers, which is what I used to do. Also electric under-blanket to pre-warm my bed.

I also find sports compression calf sleeves help with leg comfort.

Has anyone found an outdoor hot tub to be beneficial for arthritic pain?
