hi everyone,

I’ve been referred for shoulder replacement surgery. Has anyone had this surgery using nerve block instead of general anaesthetic?

My daughter had her shoulder replaced at 19 so I can tell you plenty about the recovery if it helps.

She had a nerve block and a GA though. It left her arm totally dead that night which meant she did have a really good sleep before she felt the post op pain.

@lindalegs did you have a nerve block for your shoulder??

    Best of luck @Barbs1

    Hi @Barbs1 and @frogmorton,

    Sorry for the tardy reply!

I had a nerve block for my reverse shoulder replacement, yes, Toni. I couldn't have a GA due to the arthritis in my neck and them not being able to intubate me safely. It was fine and the anaesthetist was with me the whole time during surgery, making sure I was okay. I didn't feel a thing. The sensation came back into my arm the following day.

If you need to know anything else Barbs, please just ask and I'll do my best to reply.

    Love, Legs x
