What pain killers?

Hi.

I have OA which mostly hurts my right hand (thumb base and first finger) and also my right shoulder

I'm currently on Celocoxib and Cocodamol - it lowers a tiny but the pain but I am still in masses of pain with it.

The only pain suppression that seems to work is a depomedrone injection administered just above the bum. These stop pain for around 3 months at a time, however my doctor is reluctant to keep up the steroids because of their long term effects.

Has anyone got a similar story, and advice on their treatment which I could suggest to my doctor please?

Thanks

    Hi @itsr2005

Nice to meet you sorry to hear you are struggling with osteoarthritis pain.

Personally I have tried so much over the years most of which worked for a while until I got used to them?. I take it your hand/wrist/thumb joint and shoulder are not suitable for surgery?

There are other options steroid injections are all very well but we can only have so many without causing other issues.

    Have you looked at this?

Thanks Toni. I'll take a look at the link

I've been on various tablets over the years and not found anything of great benefit other than steroids, even for just a short amount of time.

I didn't even know surgery was an option...

    Hello again @itsr2005

Have you not read any of these? Hang n while I get some for you

there you go obviously it depends how bad your OA is of course. Not everyone needs it. No harm in finding out whether any of your joints might benefit from surgery is there? You don't have to go ahead with it.

    Best of luck
