I have been off work for 2weeks with a flare up of RA and fibromyagia. Everything hurts but think the fatigue is the worst thing. Came back into work today (I'm a sen teacher) and a pupil has punched me in the back. I now have lower back pain that's radiating up my left side. Would the constant physical aggression, aggrevate my conditions? as I feel its getting worse. Working with this condition is so hard, I try to push through ai and tiredness but then I make myself even worse.

    Hello @Sab83,

Without doubt, physical trauma and also mental stress can aggravate conditions such as RA and fibromyalgia, and from what you say, it’s not surprising that you’re feeling as though you’re getting worse.

Employers do have a responsibility to look after their workforce, so it would be worthwhile talking to someone about your conditions of work and how they are affecting you. Here’s a link to some information about working with arthritis. I hope it’s useful:

Whooo that is a hard one...

    I'd say:

1/ your duty is to protect your own self

2/ clarify in your own mind - your own needs, health - body & mind

3/ accept & respect your needs

    4/ implement.

5/ look after yourself, gently, logically & fairly

Student that hit you in the back is not acceptable. Malignant.

Thanks for your comments. I am having a meeting with my manager soon. Need a long term plan though. I don't know what job I can do with this condition. No employer is going to want to employ me with this x

    Hi @Sab83

I hope that your manager is helpful and that you get a good outcome from the meeting. Have you worked out an agenda or list of what you want to talk about?

    Best Joanne
