Hi,

I’m new to this community and interested to hear about other people’s therapy and help tips. My arthritis came on after catching covid and my symptoms are worse in winter. My hands are sore and I struggling to form a fist. My blood rushes around my body and i feel like my skin is crawling. This causes anxiety, frustration and short temper bursts.
Does this sound familiar? How do people cope?
thanks PCS

Hi @paulc_s and welcome to our online community!

I agree that the weather makes a difference to arthritis symptoms. Have you been referred to rheumatology or are you on any medication?

Hi. Yes I've been referred already. I was prescribed Methotrexate a couple of years back but I had severe side effects and couldn't continue. I've since been put on Hydrochloride but not sure on the results yet. I find eating well and exercise helps but I get frustrated with the lack of grip in my hands and the feeling of anger building up. Prior to my diagnosis I was calm and very relaxed about life. Now anything can set me off. I often think about self harming but never go through with it. I'm just not me anymore.

    Hi @paulc_s

I had the same experience with methotrexate, it made me so sick and really affected my day to day life so I couldn't continue with it. I'm on biologics now and they are brilliant. It may be worth chatting to your rheumatologist about your medication if you aren't seeing much improvement.

I think it could be a good idea for you to give our helpline a call and discuss your feelings with them. You are not alone and we are here to help you as much as we possibly can. The helpline number is 0800 5200 520.

    Take care

Hi @paulc_s nice to meet you to the forum.

I am so sorry that COVID did this to you. It seems that it (sometimes for some people maybe vaccines - not just the covid one - can be enough to trigger the immune response. If you have a read of some of these threads you'll see others not just you in a similar position:

Definitely eating well and exercising regularly help also with our mental health.

I hope you'll decide to hang around this community can be a real support. Oh and do ring the helpline if you feel it might help I did twice at the start of my own arthritis 'journey'.

    Take care
