New here Osteoarthritis in knees

Hi everyone, I am a 69 year old lady with Osteoarthritis in both knees but worse in right knee. I was diagnosed about 2016 and I am waiting for surgery. In the past I have had “flares” in my right knee where the pain is unbearable making it difficult to take even a few steps, these have not lasted more than 3weeks. I am having the worst flare so far at the moment, it has been constant for over 2 weeks and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I have the strongest co-codomal - which I don’t take on a regular basis as it makes me feel a bit queazy. I’ve tried the usual - hot - cold - tens - worried about Christmas as I literally can’t walk.

Hi @Jules1955newquay and welcome to the online community,

It sounds like you’re trying all the usual treatments to help with the pain of flare-ups, but you might find something useful in the link I’ve posted below:

I Know that when I’m in pain with arthritis, gentle movements usually help, and there are some good ones suggested in the link. When you’re not in pain, it’s also important to build up the muscles around your knee so they can support you when you get a flare up ( you might already know this). Other members may have suggestions on how they deal with the pain.

Please do let us know if you find a treatment that works for you.
