Hello everyone,

I’m new here so be gentle, plus my bones hurt 😅

I’m scheduled to have my right ring finger knuckle joint replaced in April and I’m wondering if anyone here has had this done, if so do you have an advice for me. I feel ok about the surgery, my knuckle is completely obliterated, it’s bone on bone and a number of spurs - one of which is catching the tendon and giving temporary trigger type responses.

Morning @BluebellBev and welcome to the online community.

Sorry to hear your concerns about knuckle joint replacement.

I have no experience about replacement but know about joint pain in hands and elbows as I have OA there.

The following links maybe of interest……

I am sure others will connect with you soon.

    Keep posting.

    Best wishes @Naomi33

I have had 2 finger joint replacements on my ring fingers and both have gone well. The first was 7 years ago and I am able to make a fist and the second was 8 weeks ago. I am still having physio for the second one and hope to eventually make a fist again by the time I see the Consultant in about 6 weeks. I had a block anaesthetic and felt nothing at all during the op. Was numb for about 14 hours so make sure you get pain relief from GP which I took for just 2 days after the op after which the pain is bearable. I saw the hand therapist and Consultant 6 days after the op when they removed all bandage and dressings and made a splint for my finger. At the same time I was advised of what exercises to do. This is the key part and essential that you follow the hand exercise regime for a successful outcome. Hopefully if I keep up the exercises as I did for my first op I will be able to make a fist by the time I see the Consultant. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to post and I hope that your op goes well.
