Knee pain

Hi Everyone, my name is Patrick and I'm a 58 year old HGV driver living in Leicestershire. In 2018 I had a full left knee replacement due to bone on bone due to arthritis (but can't remember which one) Now 6 years later my right knee seems to be suffering the same symptoms. After a GP phone appointment, physiotherapy face to face appointment and then another on the phone I've just had my x-ray done and awaiting the results. I'm advise some pain relief advise because especially at night the pain in the centre of my knee is awful. My GP started me off on co-codamol, then Tramadol and finally amitriptyline which I have only taken 2 does of 1 tablet and made me feel like a sleepy zombie! Any advice would be greatly appreciated and hope I can help this forum with my experience of knee replacement.

Morning @Patrick57 and welcome to the online community.

Sorry to hear your concerns about knee pain and sleepless nights.

Like so many of us pain comes in many forms with arthritis and relief varies from person to person.

I started off on low doseage pain relief and over the years have built up to steriod injection direct into elbow joint which has helped me. Maybe this would be an option for you to ask about until your new knee replacement.

I am sure others will connect with you soon regards knees keep posting.

    Best wishes @Naomi33

    Hi @Patrick57

It's best to take your amitriptyline early super early no later than 7 that's what l did when I took it. Over a few days you'll get used to it. Obviously you need to be extra careful being a driver for a living not to have too much druggy stuff in your system.

My husband also drives a lot and he found two things have helped enough for him to keep going. One was to slightly adjust the position of his seat in his van and secondly he got a knee brace thingy. He doesn't use it all the time just when he needs that extra support.

Have you tried heat on your knee too that can help maybe a warm microwaveable wheat bag or one of those heat patches you can buy in most supermarkets?

Best of luck and thanks for the offer to help people who are facing knee surgery. We get lots of fantastic hip threads about surgery and recovery much less for knees.

Thank you Toni that's really useful. After reading a few threads on here I've now purchased a TENS machine and my GP has put me on Pregabalin so I'll see how I get on.
