I have a very demanding job running a nurture group in school and am on my feet a lot . I wear a brace but pain when walking is getting worse . Does anyone find using crutches 🩼 or a stick help reduce the pressure on your knee . Like many I am now in a list to see consultant again apparently 50 week wait for a appointment.thanks in advance

    Hello @lisfid

    Welcome to the forum.

    I did a forum search for the word crutches and the results are below.

    I don't have any experience of using walking aids, but it seems like they would help distribute body weight accross a bigger area and make things less painful??

    I'm sure there will be some comments from other users with some lived experience to share with you!

  • Absolutely. I wouldn't be able to stand from my sofa and move anywhere without them for two years. Ask your GP or orthopaedic hospitals because they could have crutches you can borrow. When I went to the NHS escape pain, they offered crutches to people and they adapted the height according to the individual gait.

    @lisfid

    before my hip replacement op. I was getting terrible pain in my right knee ( outer edge ) and without the use of a stick I was walking and limping badly. It also gave me confidence in walking outside and kept me more upright otherwise I would not have gone out at all. I am all for using something/anything that helps improve quality of life until you can get the op. done.
