Good evening my names les I was diagnosed yesterday but only after a physical check on my leg/knee by Dr after I complained of painful knee, my question is can it be diagnosed without xrays or mri? I was told paracetamol n ibuprofen would be good to help but friends tell me differently, so I'm looking for some helpful advise please

Hi @madles and welcome to the online community,

It sounds like you’ve been given a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in your knee by your GP but no further action is being suggested apart from over the counter painkillers. There are certainly other treatments that can be considered, and the first step is to be referred to a rheumatologist who can confirm the diagnosis and, with X-ray or scan, determine the extent of the arthritis. I would suggest you go back to your GP and ask for a referral.

It might be useful for you to read a bit about knee arthritis so that you can understand more about the diagnosis and treatment. There are also some useful suggestions for how you can help manage your condition:

Do keep posting, and ask any more questions you may have,
