Hi DeputyDog. I too have just joined🙋♀️. I can't take ibuprofen but find the only thing that helps me is Voltarol max strength 2.32% gel. I also have FM so I'm on a ton of pain meds but they either don't work on my arthritis or it's that bad they don't touch it 🤷♀️. Try the gel though as you target the actual joint that hurts rather than a general tablet. Hope you find something that works, it's always been a process of elimination for me 😊

welcome to the group. Sorry to here that you are in pain but rest assured you are not alone with this. If it was your Doctor who diagnosed you it would be worth getting another appointment with him/her to get more information regarding your condition and possible pain relief as well. Also some surgeries may have a resident physiotherapist who could help. It may be worth writing down any questions you may want to ask your Doctor as it is easy to forget at the time. Hope this helps.🙂

Hello there , not long ago I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Artheritis, and Osteoarthritis. Psoriatic in hands, Osteoarthritis in neck. Tried Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, and Naproxen from Doctor, but gradually getting more pain.Had 3 Steroid treatments, one direct in back of hand , course of tablets, and one in backside. This helps pain, but is not long term. Have resigned to having, what is recomended from consultant Methotrexate. This has a few side effects. Due to start in a few weeks time when Steroid effect has declined. Suggest to keep in touch with Doctor. What does help pain is warmth I find. Acquired hot water bottle which can have both hands inside 2 covers, and another which wraps around neck.

Hello @DeputyDog and @JoOuch1Ouch2Ouch3
Welcome to the forum.
@DeputyDog - I agree with @Fran54, it would be best to go back to your GP and get some more information about your condition and guidance about treatment. (and a referal to Rheumatology if needed) Ibuprofen is the go to anti-inflammatory tablet treatment, so if its working all good, it can cause stomach issues so if you do experience those mention that to your GP.
-@JoOuch1Ouch2Ouch3 , I use the gel as well! By FM do you mean Fibromyalgia?
Best Joanne

Hello @mikejoyce12 and welcome. You might find the following of use
Common questions about taking methotrexate
and
Methotrexate | Side-effects, uses, time to work
From what I have seen on here it takes a bit of getting used to but for a lot of people it seems worth persevering, though of course if in doubts go back to your GP/Consultant.
Best wishes
Peter

Hi I am new here too, I am in a wheelchair and mainly housebound and in lots of pain, some of it from my osteoarthritis and some of it from sciatica. Being driven mad by this cold spell. I really would like just 8 hrs of sleep with no pain any ideas.
