I’ve been on methotrexate for a year roughly, since being on it, I’ve had blurred vision and the feeling of extreme fatigue, I only get to see a rheumatology nurse, they say it’s not connected, any input appreciated

Hi. I’m on the methotrexate injection for the last 3 months. The injection is meant to be kinder on side effects. I get nauseous symptoms on the day I take it and take folic acid tablets 6 days a week. I have headaches most days as well but am able to hold down my part time job Monday to Friday. It’s bearable….Could you not ask to see your rheumatologist, usually every 3 months??… I don’t get blurry vision but would say fatigue is a symptom 👍. The injection is supposed to be the kinder option. I refused to take the tablets and insisted on the injection instead. Take care x

I’m only seeing a nurse, haven’t seen a consultant in over a year, due to see in May. I take the injection and folic acid. Doing my own research methotrexate can cause vision problems, but the nurse doesn’t acknowledge this. Perhaps my consultant will be more helpful. Thank you for your input

I am new to this and have been on Methotrexate for 3 months. I find my vision is not so good and watery eyes a lot of the time. I use eye drops but they have little effect. I feel it is a reaction to the drug but still trying to get confirmation of that.

  • Hi @karen777

I have been on and off MTX for 15 years. Currently I have been on the injections for 3 years

I get too many side effects - mainly nausea and vomiting. But severe tiredness the 2 days after the injection.
I get blurred vision with loss of vision for a few seconds in the dark. I have seen an optician too but was told it’s not related to my eyes. But I have fibromyalgia too and it’s what has been blamed for all odd symptoms

I do feel so much better when I stop MTX but my body makes antibodies to biologics (so they stop working) & so my consultant has advised that despite the side effects I have to continue with MTX ☹️

I’m not happy on methotrexate at all, although I see the benefits as it’s reduced the swelling and pain in my hands etc. I now feel awful in general though. You can’t seem to win

Hi, Ive noticed extreme triedness since upping my methotrexate dose. Ive got dark circles under my eyes even though Im sleeping well. I would say my sleep seems a lot deeper too. im not happy about the increase either. My inflamation markers are normal now and I have a bit of inflamtion activity in my pointer fingers only.

I was on methotrexate for my skin and arthritis and it always made me feel sick for a day or so but worked. Then the rheumatology consultant put me on an injection I do myself as I did with methotrexate called amgevita .there's no sickness with it and upto now my skin is clear and my arthritis in spine is under control. The arthritis in my knees it doesn't work for but that is the wear and tear arthritis.so I'd see if U can switch to amgevita.
