methotrexate increased, feeling upset.
i feel a bit disappointed. I had a review with consultant the other week. Despite my inflamation markers being in the normal levels and my mobility much improved, my methotrexate dose is being increased. I had gone along full of hope and expectation that because my blood tests are so good. it would be lowered or even stopped. My diets good and I excersise, so i reasoned, end of problem! However there is still some inflamation activity on finger joints and consultant wants to stop it in its tracks before anymore damage is done to bone/joint. I dont get much in the way of side effects but have noticed increased tiredness. I cant bear the thought of methotrexate as a forever drug. its taken the jam right out of my doughnut .

I love that expression - taken the jam right out of my doughnut. Brilliant. I may well use that myself…….
Re: Methotrexate, it IS disappointing to have the dosage increased but the consultant may well reduce it again in the future. However, I hate to break it to you but R.A. is incurable, you may have to stay on Methotrexate for the rest of your life. Or you may go into remission and be able to come off it unless/until it flares up again. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst! It is the go-to drug for relieving R.A. and it does work - look at your blood test results. Inflammation markers normal, mobility much improved - that's the Methotrexate working.
I hate the thought of having these nasty drugs pumped into my system, I am currently injecting Methotrexate weekly and have additionally started on injecting Yuflyma once a fortnight. And with regular blood tests I feel like a pincushion! But I am beginning to feel more like myself so have (most of the time) accepted that this is the way of things now. Every now and then I get really down and full of self-pity but that feeling doesn't last for long, I am just grateful for the existence of the NHS.
May you find the jam once more!

hello. Just wondering how you find injecting methotrexate versus tablet form

Hello @Kordz
I find injecting (with Metoject pen) so much more convenient than tablets and also of course you don’t get that horrible taste in your mouth! It also reduced nausea. The Metoject pens are quick and easy to use and I wouldn’t willingly go back to taking tablets…..
