Still in pain after total knee replacement

Hi everyone, I’ve not posted in quite a while but have seen the great support given by the group and I’m hoping that someone may have some advice.

I received a left total knee replacement nearly 15 months ago and I have continued to experience difficulties. My knee is painful, clicks and crunches and gives way on a regular basis. My range of movement isn’t great either (0-100) and the joint feels stiff. This is seriously hampering day to day living and sleep.

I have recently requested a second opinion and have been advised that my patella was not resurfaced as part of the original surgery and that recent x-rays show I have severe osteoarthritis behind the patella. There may also be an issue with the plastic spacer as this is the cause of the clunking with grinding noise coming from the patella.
I have been asked to wait a further 6 months to allow bone to continue to heal. There are no new exercises recommended on top of what I’m currently doing ( swimming/ walking/ indoor bike) and no additional analgesia offered. It’s taken me 2 weeks to absorb that information and be in a position to talk about it.

Does anyone have any similar experience or any words of wisdom to offer?

All help/ support greatly received x

Angela
