Gout

I had my first attack of gout in my big toe back in November. It was a huge surprise as I rarely drink alcohol, I don't smoke and I don't eat red meats. I had thought these were the main causes and never expected to suffer with it.

I was given colchicine which worked, but upset my stomach so had to stop, but the pain had pretty much gone by then.

It's started up again and I know if left untreated it can cause bigger problems. Can't get through to my GP surgery, what can I do? I can barely walk.

In my experience, there are many other triggers - bad ones for me are shellfish, marmite and pate. I don't suffer any more as I'm on Allopurinol (miracle stuff) but when I did I always got some anti inflammatories down me at the first sign of the dreaded throbbing as its the inflammation that causes the pain

  • by the looks of it you posted today. I started getting symptoms in November last year myself in my right ankle I’m only 24. As for trying to get through to your gp if they aren’t offering any appointments I’d go through 111 that’s what I did every time after the first time when I went to urgent care incase it was a blood clot. Going through 111 means that you’ll get an appointment at least that’s what has worked for me as trying to get a same day gp appointment is getting more difficult as time goes on. Hope that helps. I know going through 111 every time before trying your local doctors is not an ideal but you got to do what you got to do these days as it’s so painful.
