Hi everyone. I had a knee replacement in March 2021 and, sadly it has failed😢. I developed pain in my knee last year, and was diagnosed with aseptic loosening in December, when my surgeon told me me I would need further surgery to replace the implant. I believe that this implant is made by Zimmer NexGen, and has been recalled by the manufacturer because it is twice as likely to require early replacement as normal.

Hello @Peggy’sMum and a warm welcome to the online community,

How disappointing for you to find that your knee replacement surgery has failed because of a faulty implant. We have many members on here who have had knee replacements and some have not been successful, but I’ve done a search and no one mentions NexGen as the reason for their failure.

There may be some members who have experienced knee replacement failure and can come along to share their experiences, meanwhile, I hope your next replacement is scheduled soon and is successful.

If you’re struggling with pain, the link below offers some suggestions to help you- I hope you find them useful. Please keep posting, and ask any questions you may have.

  • They must of changed the implant as both of my knee replacements were A "Gennis Two" knee joint refers to the "Genesis II" total knee replacement system, a medical device manufactured by Smith & Nephew, designed for primary and revision knee replacement surgeries; it features an externally rotated femoral component with a deeper and more lateralized trochlear groove, allowing for a more anatomic fit compared to earlier designs.Â
