Hi, has anybody on here developed sulfasalazine toxicity within the first 6+ weeks of taking the medication? If so, could you describe your experience please? I'm interested to find out if my experience is similar to others'. Many thanks.

    Hello @Chip_peeps71,

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time on sulfasalazine, personally I did get quite sick on the medication however I am unsure if it was toxicity or not. I experienced mostly sickness and fatigue when taking my meds and that was the reason I came off it.

I have linked some information below about the meds themselves but I also highly recommend contacting the helpline for some advice on 0800 5200 520.

I really hope you manage to get things sorted and please do let us know if you have any more questions.

    All the best,

    Olivia

    Hi chip-peeps71

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been too well lately.

I had a bad reaction to sulfasalazine about 8/9 weeks after starting it. Rash which spread all over the body, liver LFT's were deranged, stopped eating and was hospitalised with this and fever and swollen lymph glands. This is hopefully a rare reaction,I don't think the hospital had seen so bad a reaction, students were brought in to see me (with my permission) it was bad luck for me but something to be aware of and watch for.

Coming off the drug and high dose steroids gradually sorted things out.

    Hope you are ok now.

    Best wishes.

Took them for about 4 weeks, went through me like a Porsche, had to stop taking them.
