Hi I have been diagnosed for severe degenerative OA and my NHS consultant has suggested a bilateral hip replacement. Both hips replaced at once. I have found very little information on this online, so would appreciated some real life experiences if anyone wants to share!

Hi @henrrietta Henri I see you have been advised to have a bilateral hip replacement at the same time.

I Have done you a quick search for threads on the subject here:

This procedure is done much less frequently that single hip replacements or one following on some months later. Hopefully you'll get some replies.

    Best wishes

    Ellen.

  • Thanks Ellen, I am struggling to find anyone currently on the forum who has had this surgery; and most of the advice for pre and post op mobility is irrelevant (ie things like using your old hip first, then your new one). I am confused as to why I'd be offered such unusual surgery.

There is very little info on this procedure in the US - I wondered if it came from there - but why is this surgeon offering it when there are barely any surgeons in the world who do it. I'm scared.
