So tired and no energy
I am in my 3rd week of a chest infection, flu symptoms and a cough. I was given 7 days antibiotics which will finish on Sunday. Admittedly these seem to have helped with chest infection but the cough which started from the chest and hurt is now in my throat which is an annoying tickle. Lots of clear mucus as well. I have not had a good nights sleep since this all started as the cough wakes me up at least every hour so I am so tired and could fall asleep anywhere but cannot stay asleep ! I have no energy and ache in all muscles but think this is due to coughing. I have had to miss 2 methotrexate injections because of antibiotics. Sorry to have a moan but has anyone got any solutions to get my energy back when this virus has gone. Thank you

Hi @Teapot
I have asthma and bronchiecstasis so when I get a cold I get ill and ended up being rather poorly with pneumonia last year.
Listen to your body, rest, sleep when you need to, sleep propped up with pillows. If you're not feeling better when you finish your pills then ring your gp back and tell them, especially when it's affecting your other meds. You can't dump chest infections overnight even with steroids and anti biotics.
Sending you lots of love n hugs and take it steady
Trish

@Teapot I have exactly the same. I did a test and tested positive for flu type B and am now nearly 2 weeks into it. The last 2 tests were negative but I don't feel any better. I had 5 days of antibiotics which helped a bit. I have been to the doctor's twice in the last week but they won't give anymore antibiotics and the chest was clear when they listened but the cough is terrible.
Like you I am unable to sleep as the cough keeps waking me up and have to sleep propped up. I am so tired that I don't know what to do. It has put a halt to my recovery program from THR as I am only able to manage the most basic physio exercises at the moment. I had started going to all my exercise classes again and was going to start Nordic walking again but that is out of the question at the moment as I can hardly put one foot in front of the other. I think this is a particularly nasty virus.
I think I am going to try Biostrath which is a herbal supplement - you can buy it in liquid form or tablets. I have taken it before in the past and it does seem to help to recover energy. It's expensive but might be worth a try. I have just ordered echinacea tablets in the hope that it will help get rid of the virus. I am drinking herbal teas with lemon and honey. Hope you find some improvement.

Thank you so much for your comments and tips. When I wrote this i was feeling “I am the only one”. I deep down knew this was not true but was feeling low and tired. The worse thing over the last 3 weeks is the no sleep, I am not a good sleeper, waking after 3/4 hours but now think that would be better than none. Hopefully an easier night tonight for us all and we can see an end to this virus. Will try the lemon and honey tea tonight which my daughter got for me today.
