Hello I'm new to this I was diagnosed in October. I've been having bloods done and today's bloods have gone up a lot. They were 37 but they've gone up to 95, has anyone else's gone up this amount?

Thanks for your post to the Helpline. If you'd like the experiences of other people with arthritis, you might post on one of the other forums such as the living with arthritis forum.

I'm not sure what type of arthritis you are affected by, so do look it up in our Conditions search - for Rheumatoid arthritis go to the letter R.

Conditions | Types of arthritis, causes, treatments

If you are a Rheumatology patient and being treated with a disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD), the drugs are given in low doses over a long period of time to have a gradual effect on your immune system and slowly bring down the levels of inflammation.

One of the blood results that Rheumatology monitor is CRP, but all these results are looked at together with other results and balanced with your description of how you are feeling.

The blood results will go back to Rheumatology and they will review them and contact you. If you feel unwell, you can contact the Rheumatology Nurse Helpline and talk this over. These discussions might open up the subject of your current treatment and if any changes may need to be considered.

    I hope that's helpful

    Hi @sherjoshdan

I've a different inflammatory arthritis - psoriatic arthritis(PsA). It was diagnosed in 2020 and 3 weeks after this diagnosis I was admitted to hospital as I had also contracted pneumonia. At it's worst my CRP level was 340. That was a combination of inflammation (from the PsA) and infection (from the pneumonia) - apparently the CRP test cannot differentiate which. I'd never heard of CRP tests before this so asked what it should be and was told between 2-3 for a healthy person. However they did discharge me when my CRP level was 127 as it was on a downward trajectory. So I didn't worry too much about the exact figure. I'm now on a triple drug therapy - sulfasalazine, methotrexate and adalimumab and my regular blood tests show a CRP level of less than 1 normally.

I hope you get your inflammatory arthritis under control soon.
