Type of sport/exercise for people with osteoarthritis on the hips
Hello!
Can someone please advise a sport to practice for people with osteoarthritis on the hips?
I was even thinking to get a personal trainer.
Is watearobics good? Are weights lifting ok?
Thanks
T.

Hello @Takamaka,
I undertook weight training as part of the GP Exercise Programme which gets you a 1:1 assessment with a specialist at a local public sports centre. My OA is in my knees and the personalised programme I've been following around 18 months now is designed to strengthen my quads, calves and glutes to help them cope with the extra workload and provide support for my weakened joints. Does it work? Well, let me put it this way - I was due to have both knees replaced in February last year but felt good enough to cancel so for me, "yes" is the answer. I supplement this with regular use of an exercise bike, walking and Cycling. A lot of work but my quality of life is so much better.
Hope this helps,
jon

Thanks so much for the info. Is this GP program in London GP practices?
It sounds interesting. I am glad you didn't have to go for surgery.
Best wishes
