Hi

I’ve been newly diagnosed with Ps Arthritis.
I got told that I will be starting methotrexate as soon as possible.
I’m slightly worried about taking this after watching a few TikToks. Can anyone who has taken methotrexate for this just tell me a-bit about the side effects and if they recommend taking this. 😊

Hi @maleeha20 , I’m also 20 and although I’ve just started on biologics now, I had been taking methotrexate for about 4yrs previously. Obviously, what works for one person may not work for another and we may have totally different experiences but I only experienced the side affects a few times when I first started taking it. Some of my hair did fall out but lessened after I started using biotin treatments/supplements and it was never noticeable to anyone except for me. I’ll attach some links on methotrexate too which you may find worth a read!

I hope you've felt able to start the medication now @maleeha20 it is scary no doubt about it being given a life cahnging diagnosis and seeing those videos. What's worth remembering is most people doing those tiktoks are probably struggling. Those who are doing well aren't needing to post precisely because they are doing ok.

Loads of us take it here in the online community and without too many issues. If you do struggle there are things that can help - some medical meds to offset them or even taking it via injection instead. Other things which can help are taking your meds at different times, getting enough rest (like maybe taking it Friday night so you can lie-in Saturday) and some of us find eating certain foods can help with any nausea.

Best of luck any problems do shout we'll help if we can
