This time last week, I was on the hospital ward….

Now I’m one week on. I can get in and out of bed, go to the loo, wash myself- making rather a mess when I wash my hair - I can get hair wet over the sink, shampoo and then use half of a soap travel dish to rinse off the shampoo but it does go everywhere!!

I can get dressed apart from socks, slip on shoes I can manage with a long shoe horn. I can get downstairs using crutches on the stairs, and then crutches or my walking frame to move round downstairs. I can manage about an hour - hour and a half before I have to back to bed due to swelling of foot and ankle.

I can sit and be sort of comfy downstairs, and have got into the garden on crutches three times.

I am doing the exercises even the really hard out to the side one aiming for 3 times a day but twice have only managed 2.

I do have a lot of tightness in my lower leg, and freezing cold feet. Also a lot of trapped wind and backache presumably from using crutches and walking frame.

Let’s see what today brings xx

    Hi @Mommabear

I bet when you came out of surgery you never thought you would be doing so much one week on - well done!

Remember, it is a marathon, not a race and that every day is different - what you may find easy one day you might struggle with another.

I did giggle when you mentioned getting water everywhere…it was ages before I could wash my hair and I used dry shampoo for the first couple of weeks so well done for that.

You are doing brilliantly and remember that when you're frustated.

well done, you should be feeling very pleased with your progress. Oh yes, I remember wondering how to do my hair and I bought one of those dry shampoo caps you massage over your scalp. It was a bit of a faff but better than nothing at all. I did worry about the stairs but soon managed them with the crutches. Also I made sure that my grabber was always near to hand. At least the weather should be warmer/dryer now and it will do you a power of good to be able to sit outside and nature watch. Keep positive and take care.🙂
