Myositis

During the last few months I had noticed a drastic change in my strength and movement and decided to go to the GP for a check up.

I was given a number of blood tests etc and the results indicate I have Myositis. My GP has made an urgent referral to rheumatology and I am waiting for this. I guess this will be when it will be confirmed.

Meantime my GP advised me to search the internet to establish what Myositis is as I had never heard of it before.

My initial searches left me in a dark place as everything seemed negative with life expectancy, disabilities and pain at the forefront of the research. Nothing also appeared very recent.

I then stumbled across Versus Arthritis and called the hotline. Fiona (the councillor) was very good at reassuring me but I hoped to be able to learn from someone's experience as to how their lives were affected.

If anyone on this forum has Myositis their experience's would be helpful. I realise everyone's case will be different but I think I just need a bit of hope. I also realise there are a few types but as I said I am just at the start of my journey so unsure what type of Myositis I actually have.

Hi @JimMichie and welcome to our friendly online community. We are delighted to have you join us and hope we can help.

I have no personal experience of this condition however here's an article I found on Myositis - Myositis | Causes, symptoms, treatment - hopefully there will be some useful information on there.

I am glad to hear you called our helpline and that Fiona helped to reassure you.

Perhaps other members who have this condition will join in on this and give some advice.

    Take care, Claudia x
