Hip replacement.

I've just started the hip replacement journey. Had my surgery on April 17th.

I've been surprised by how I've been able to slowly move around with two crutches. My medication is helping. Lots of tablets which is a new experience for me.

I'm learning how to listen to my body, not rush and be able to move when my body is telling me too.

It's hard when it is painful. I rest after physio exercises , which helps my body heal.

It was so good my husband find this website so I can read about other people's experiences.

welcome to the website. Hopefully you will soon start to feel improvement gradually day by day. There are plenty of us "hippies" on here who can help answer any questions you may well have. One piece of advise is to be kind to yourself. Also everyone heals differently and at different paces. Please keep us updated with your progress.🙂

    Hi @fReedom

    Welcome to the "hippies" club!

You seem to be doing really well. It is important to remember in these early days that recovery from any surgery, let alone a total hip replacement, is a marathon and not a sprint race. There will be days when you feel as if you can tackle anything and days when you feel as if you're going backwards. This is perfectly normal.

The most important thing is to do as you're told! Do your physio regularly, take paracetamol about 20 minutes before hand to help you through it. Make sure though that you adjust meds to do this but it does help.

Don't try to do too much too soon, it is very tempting but as you said, you're learning to listen to your body so keep it up.

There are lots of us fellow hippies on here who have gone through THR and have the t-shirt who have posted helpful diaries on our recovery journies.

Keep up the good recovery and please shout out if you need to

    Trish

@fReedom You are doing really well - it's such early days for you. There are lots of us here who have 'been there, done that'. Mine was December 2023 and I remember so well how the first few days and weeks were, but so much better now and really better than I've been in years.

I hope all goes well for you but don't hesitate to ask if you've any questions/concerns, if we can answer, we will.

    Take care.

Just a very quick welcome to you @fReedom from the Moderating team. I can see you've already found 3 of our regular posting 'hippies' Janlyn, Trish9556 and Fran54, they have been a fantastic support to each other and many other people facing hip surgery.

I do hope you will also continue to post and look forward to hearing how you are getting on.

    Best wishes

    Ellen.

So today was good, my husband says I'm quicker on my crutches. To me I am so as it's not even been a week since my hip replacement. My body tells me when to move, the feeling where my scare is and back prompt me to move with my crutches. Movement really does help it be less painful.

I've also noticed I can feel the lower muscles in my legs now when I move. Small things I'm so thankful for.

Looking forward to having my clips out of where they put the hip joint in. I know it might be a little painful. But it will be good to not have that tight feeling from the scare healing.

Once you have had your clips out and your scar is dry, get a tub of e45, not the bottle, and use this as much as you need to rub on your scar. lf you keep it in the fridge it helps with any swelling.

It really does work well and was recommended to me by a surgeon many years ago.
