I’m due to have a midfoot fusion and bone graft on the 30th may I am worried sick about I am gonna get about the thought of it is scaring me to death I’ve had many surgeries but this one in particular scares me

Hi @deejojo0811, it’s completely normal to feel anxious before surgery. I would advise to have a look through the online community for posts from those with experience these surgeries, I will see if I can link any I find on here however you should find some by browsing through past discussions in the Living with arthritis section.

Good afternoon deejojo0811 not sure what fusion you are having TALUS or SUB TALUS as ive had that on my left ankle in 2020 an 2022 it's ok to be scared of the unknown so ill explain what's involved & what to expect…

The make a slice at the side or on the top of the foot rough up the bone take some bone if its of your ilac crest(hip joint) that hurts then they put screws in like my avatar but ive had 2 fusions..

In plaster for 3 months they do funky colours black,blue,pink when boot comes off then airboot for 8 weeks then you have to learn to walk again…

Main item i would get is a knee walker like a scooter 4 wheels you put your bent leg some have a basket and you can get a leg pillow to keep your leg elevated...

Im a gardener so still working can ride my bike an walk with out pain best thing i did but my ankle collapsed good luck with the opp an keep us informed any questions feel free to ask,thank's Peter...
