Elevated CRP and chest pain

Hi all,

I'm new here. I've had OA for years and it's been particularly bad in my right hand and index finger is swollen. GP ordered more blood tests and an xray last week. All bloods have come back normal apart from a slightly elevated CRP of 11.

I have a call booked in with the GP tomorrow but a couple of times this week I've had chest pain. Previously had something similar a few years ago and GP reception insisted I call an ambulance and ended up in A&E all day and nothing found.

I understand they have to check these things but I really don't want to spend all day in A&E again. I know no-one can tell me definitively but could the swollen finger and raised CRP be an indicator of RA now? that in itself then worried me as I saw it has an increased risk of heart attack so as you can imagine my mind is in overdrive.

I'll mention it on the GP call tomorrow but from reading on here it looks as though chest pain often accompanies RA. I'm also considering booking in for a private blood test as not sure the GP would check enzyme levels/troponin and would insist I go to A&E.

Anyone got any advice or reassurance that this might be 'normal'?

Thanks

If you're experiencing chest pain, call 999, always.

Better to be checked out instead if worrying which will make any pain seem worse

    Hello @pinkyangel

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you will get some answers about your blood test results soon. Elevated CRP could indicate other conditions as well as RA, but the GP should be able to talk you through that.

I'm glad that the last time you had chest pain all was ok, the GP receptionist was right to signpost you to A&E for that. Again, chest pain could indicate more than one diagnosis! If you don't want to call an ambulance or 999 you could call 111 and they will triage you through your symptom's and advise accordingly.

    All the best Joanne
