Best cream to help with scaring
I will have my operation for the right hip for arthritis on Saturday. I wondered whether Bio-Oil or E45 cream or other might be best to try to help with scarring… Any advice welcome!

Hello @AliEv and welcome to the Online Community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that will be your experience as well.
Have a look at the following NHS advice which I hope will help you.
They do mention creams.
Please let us know how you get on.
Best wishes
Peter

Hi,
When I had my first surgery many years ago, my wonderful surgeon told me to use E45. Make sure you get the stuff in the tub and once stitches are out and there is no weeping, rub it liberally into your scar as often as you like. In hot weather I kerp mine in the fridge. You can also use it as an alternative to soap/shower gel.
It's also less than half the price of bio oil for a huge tub.

hi, I used Bio-oil on my scar after Hip replacement. As Trish says wait maybe 3 weeks after op then massage the scar with oil or E45 to reduce scar tissue. I used it daily for weeks and the scar feels smooth, no bumps. (It was a nice way to get used to the scar too…) The scar is v visible but it’s not even a year old yet! Lots of high factor suncream in the sun too (or cover it up).
Just seen the date, assume you had the op yesterday? Congrats and hope you’re doing ok😊0
