Hi @IceSunny05
Thank you for posting in the Helpline Online Community about taking part in the Genesis II Research Trial.
Whilst we are unable to comment on whether this would be safe for yourself to participate in, all research done in the NHS must follow guidelines which make sure that the project is safe, ethical and of a high quality.
A consideration for yourself may be to ask the Orthopaedic Specialist whether taking part in this research trial could impact on the option and success of any future knee surgery, and any potential complications of any interventions conducted as part of the trial may bring in this regard.
If you did decide to be involved in a particular project, you don’t have to take part. Whether you were approached or you volunteered yourself, you can choose to leave the project at any point, and you don’t have to give a reason. It won’t affect your normal care and it doesn’t mean that you can’t take part in research in future.
You may find the following information useful to consider:
Whilst we don't have information specifically about this research trial, you may find the following resource helpful to consider from The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust which explains what the Genesis I trial involved - the key findings from that, and discusses the focus of the Genesis II trial. We have no control over the contents of these resources and are unable to guarantee their suitability for you, but we hope they’re helpful:
I hope this helps.

Hi @IceSunny05,
Further to my response to your post enquiring about Genesis II Trial, our Research Liaison Team have been able to provide some additional information and links. The Genesis 2 trial is a large clinical trial being conducted following the successful Genesis 1 research trial. In this trial researchers want to gather more evidence from their first trial to see whether a treatment called Genicular Artery Embolisation works for patients with knee osteoarthritis. In Genesis 1 they found it was safe and the results were promising but they want more evidence to make sure it is ready to go on to treat more patients.
More information about the trail can be found here:
In addition to having a conversation with your healthcare provider about the safety of participating in the trial, you should also be able to contact the study team to have a conversation about the safety of the procedure before you agree to take part.
I hope this helps.
Thanks, Helen, Helpline Advisor
