This young (now) newly minted rheumatologist Dr Siobhan Deshauer is probably one of the best educators that takes a Dr House/Sherlock approach to medical diagnostics, gets you to think without getting looked down upon.

Those taking MTX are actually taking a medically induced Vit B9 deficiency which temporarily inhibits T cell proliferation. This tamps your immune system and thereby also tamps the attacks on your joints as there are fewer T effector cells to chew up your joints. Sadly there is as yet no drug that targets the specific misguided B cells that train the T-eff cells on what to attack. (I once joked with a rheumy about current RA immune suppression therapy having much in common with being exposed to Chernobyl, but she laughed and said while she understood what I meant, she couldn’t endorse it as an alternative therapy)!

This video is why you should take your folic acid after your MTX day. If you eat a lot of fresh green veg like spinach it probably won’t make much of a difference as greens are rich in folate and the body absorbs it very efficiently. But a lot of people don’t eat enough greens, and for our exclusive club that’s a serious problem.

    Hi @Arthuritis

I don't take MTX fortunately but I do share my kale and sprouts with my tortoise! He does complain about this sometimes though!

Hope all is OK with you?

😂Naughty Tortoise! You have to tell him to eat his greens or he won’t grow up to be big & strong and go Vroom Vroom! (Like in the ad)!
