Hi Everyone, what a dreadful night I had again, despite taking pain killers and amitriptylline, it all started when I had a heard a "clunk" while doing my ankle rotation exercise. I was in pain all night with my ankle, my hands and toes decided to join in too, I had pain killers at 11.30pm and slept to 1.30am, I woke up and found my ankle joint was very sore, I rubbed in some Ibugel, then dozed on and off, up again for more pain kilers and cat feeding duties at 7am, and I have just risen out of the pit at 11am.

I have decided to rest today and see how my ankle is tomorrow, if no better on sunday I have decided to check with the hospital, of course my Rheumy says I have not RA in my ankles, but then again I haven't had full x-rays for 13 years or a yearly review this year.

Hope you all slept better than me love Jaspercatxxx

It seems sleep derivation is part of arthritis and have you noticed if you sleep in you cant sleep the next night no matter how tierd you are.

Hi Colin, yes I have noticed about sleep. when I start not sleeping I can go for 2-3 nights without sleeping properly, then I crash out and sleep like a log, the trouble is that I have to go to bed in the afternoon because I didn't sleep at night, I think that we can't win one way or the either love Jaspercatxx

    Hi

I have had RA flairs in many areas, feet, ankles, knees, hands etc. For many of us it's not convined to one area, so it can very well be RA. Alot of the pain comes from the tissues and are not always evident in bone x-rays.

OMG it must be catching its 5am cant sleep, hurt from head to toe body says sleep mind says oh no you dont. These long nights get so lonely even when others are in the house. even tried talking to the dog but she gave me one of those looks put her head down and closed her eyes. Oh how i long for some respite just a day or two, Christmas day and Boxing day would be ok, I'm back on the steriods so they may kick in just in time.
    take care you all

I'm sitting here at work typing this on my lunch break and I think i've nearly fallen asleep twice in the past few hours (thank god my chair has a head rest that my head bumped into otherwise I'd have been out like a light)

I don't know what's keeping me up. I can only assume it's that I get uncomfortable and stiff whist sleeping as my RA doesn't cause much pain whilst lying still in bed with the weight off my joints.

Either way I agree with you, i'll have a few really bad days, then i'll have one day when i'm out like a light, i sleep for too long and feel awful and then the cycle starts again.

It doesn't help that as well as RA i have Tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears)!

    Hi everyone,
Just to let you know you are not alone. I've not been sleeping well either. Last week there were two nights when I couldn't drop off until 4AM!!! Being back at work and preparing for Christmas can't be helping. Steroids are fabulous though. I'm on 10mg a day this week, just to get me through til boxing day.

hi,me too i cant sleep either, ive read about 4 books in the last couple of weeks when i cant sleep at night.its so frustrating as then im tired the next day.ive tried taking the herbal sleeping tablets cant say that they work though.i think when we have pain nothing realy helps as your body cant relax enough to get that sleepy feeling.

Same here, i don't get to sleep easy. Stiffness, and pain :) Joyy.
I can look on the bright side now, not so funny at 4 in the morning when you've gotta get up at 6.45 !

    Ahh well.

Lots of love to everyone, i'm glad it's not just me in a way - i wish you'd all be able to sleep obviously but knowing i'm not alone is good.

Me too! I've had some rotten nights lately - I read for ages (thank goodness for the library) watch strange films at 3am then sleep at odd times...Just can't get comfortable, some nights propped up with 4 pilows...

By the way, my ankles 'clunk' when I rotate them too! It feels like they're dislocating. Do you think this is what yours is Jaspercat??? :(

I went to sleep the night before Christmas eve at 1.30am, didn't sleep and up at 6am. I went to bed on Christmas eve (or should I say Christmas morning) at 2am and was up at 4am. I had 3/4 hour at 9am Christmas morning. I went back to bed at 11pm Christmas night and eventually got off at 2am. 3.30am was flashing on the clock yesterday morning when I woke again and that was me awake until 6am when I got another hour!! Last night I got off at 12.30am and awake at 2am and then awake until 4am and then 2 hours sleep again. I have had 1 hour in the chair this afternoon. So as you can see I ain't sleeping neither!!! I just don't seem able to get more than 2 hours at a time. When I wake I just can't switch off again. I try to turn my brain off but I find myself thinking of all sorts of things. Even a couple of glasses of wine on Christmas day didn't help. At this rate I'll be reaching for the sleeping tablets again tomorrow night!! This is as bad as when the kiddies were babies!!!

Hi Slummymummy, I think that is what has happened with my ankle, the dislocation I mean, still very painful, but walking a bit better, do not really want to go to the gp I am never out of there, I have been rubbing some Voltarol Gel in, it helps a little, I will wait a little longer and keep an eye on it love Jaspercatxxx

hi,my sleeping is the same.i.e xmas eve thought i'll have a few glasses of wine, bed at 10.30, 4hrs sleep,up at 2.30 came down for a cuppa.back to bed ,awake again by 4am,just laid waiting for alarm to go off at 7.30 to put turkey in,cuppa back to bed set alarm again, when it was time to get up completely knackered.i seem to wake every couple of hrs until im so tried that i could eventually sleep on & off allday.its the same with sleeping tabs.the pain breaks through alnight.but i cant get to sleep in the afternoons, even if it is quiet.just sit & shut my eyes for a few mins is all i can manage.i never set the alarm unless i have to,i think i'll sleep till i feel i need to.setting the alarm makes me keep clock watching alnight,so i switch it off,no light in bedroom.wishing u all some desent sleep,& answers on a postcard  debs x
