Anyone use a heaight-adjustable desk/table?

Having had a number of problems during the year I have been given a really good ergonomic keyboard for Christmas, and having already bought a better monitor I am now thinking that I should really get a proper desk that I can use when on the computer to avoid me having any more trouble with my neck/back/shoulders etc.
The one I have now, shilst built for the job, doesnt' really work for me height-wise, and I have seen that there are desks available that can be varied from standing to sitting.
Anyone got any experience of these and can say what the pros and cons can be?
thanks for any ideas

I have an electric desk in my office, supplied through the Access to Work scheme. It has a push button to raise and lower it from ankle height, to chin! It has been a godsend. Some days I have it quite low, when that feels the most comfortable, but sometimes I work standing up.
Would definitely recommend it if you are at a desk a lot. I don't know the make off the top of my head but can look underneath and check.

Oh Kaz - I must have my silly head on tonight .............. I have such a picture of you with your desk at ankle height trying to look underneath for the make!!!!

Sorry ..... silly half hour over - promise!!
well - for now anyway - they do say a good laugh does us good!
seriously, that sounds brilliant for work, but as I will be getting it for home as I'm not currently working, it sounds a tad expensive perhaps? I have seen one in an office supplies catalogue that has a winding handle to raise and lower it.
What I suppose I should do is get in touch with the OT department and ask if they have any suggestions. I don't suppose they will offer to help with the cost though!

Hiya Wonkylegs,
I got a chair for work, through access to work. It's adjustable for different heights of work areas. It has a head rest and a 'pump' thing for lumbar region. You pump it up or release air to fit back bit to make it comfortable for the way you sit. It also has foot rests. Best bit is it tilts, if you want! It's great-so great that I have to fight for it in my work area! It's quite big and at first people were saying 'that's too big, you can't bring it in here' but now the same folk are using it more than me!!!!!!!!!!! This was about 6yrs ago and it was about 450 pds  Never knew you could get an adjustable desk-that would be fun

hi wonkylegs...have been looking into this for my wife recently..and am pretty much in shock just how much a basic height adjustable desk costs, never mind the easier to use electric ones.
is there anyone could build you a desk that the top can be put on at different heights? basic material costs from a diy shed wont be that high. would also perhaps allow a more tailored fit to your exact needs?

Wonkylegs, you are mad!
Welcome to the club.
I might just possibly have put it to chin height to check out the label. My days of limbo dancing are well and truely over!
I saw the turn handle one in a catalogue, but the guy who came to do the ergonomic assessment didn't think I had the hand power to turn it. As he was used to such assessments I took his word for it. Am very happy with what I have anyway.
Hope you get the perfect solution for yourself.
I'm just off to crawl under my desk...
