Hi, anyone reading this. I am having a moan about the cold, I work part time with rheumatoid arthritis. I have been off sick and had to have my heating on 24hrs a day to keep warm.
I get the lower rate of DLA but don't qualify for any help with my heating costs but if I didn't bother to work I would get help.
I do struggle to work but keep going to keep me alive!!!
When will the goverment help those who try to help themselves ??? :(:(
Anyone else feel the same as me ?

    Absolutely!

I also work part-time with RA and won't give up, partly because I like my job, but most importantly because then arthur has won. I see the vast perks given to some people who just think it is their right to take all and give nothing and my blood boils. I know of many of them through the work I do which adds insult to injury.

I wish having your blood boiling kept you warm, but it makes you feel the cold even more!!!!

Thanks Kaz, I am like you I need to work for my own self esteem but sometimes I wonder why I bother, then I remember Arthur and I won't let him beat me. It's the same with paying for prescriptions, I think it's disgusting when you have a long term health condition like ours. Yet if I gave up work I could get them free !! I think Gordon Brown should live our lives for a month or two see how he feels !!! Take Care and thanks for your reply.

Hey I work part time with RA and have been signed off for the past two weeks as I've had a flare up in my shoulders (made me feel really rubbish as I was totally reliant on my parter, he even had to help me dress and he's quite pants at doing hair! Bless him).
I've had the heating on practically full time whilst I've been stuck at home, hate to think what the bill is going to be like! What can you do?
Our house is very old and full of damp but we're stuck in our contract and our landlord won't let us out of it. So I end up most days wearing my emu boots and sitting under a blanket. Can't wait til march of to Egypt on our honeymoon!!! Bring on the sun!

I too work part time and have RA and also keep on going to keep me sane. I get depressed very easily so it is better for me to be out and about. I have lots to do with 3 kids too but like the adult company. So many days I could crawl up and stay home but once I get from the bed to a hot shower I can mobilise and get going. My thoughts are with you all.

    Hello,
I'm really finding it cold just now too. I can't get a heat in me and have heating on full blast all day. Kids are running around with t-shirts on and socks off and I'm huddled in the corner with about 5 layers of clothing on. God knows what my heating bill will be. Today though, my heating went on blink-horrendous. I got really panicky and at one point burst into tears-arthur playing up big time. I know I wouldn't last a whole night without heating. I live in Scotland, and it's baltic even in summer :) My kids didn't even notice but after 30mins of heating being off I was soooo cold!I was even wishing for tomorrow so I could be in my car with heating on AND being in my work cos the wards are always roasting-how sad is that? Getting it fixed for 200quid  On now but I think guy has done something to thermostat :?
Away for a cuddle  only a cuddle (honestly)

I have had the heating on 24 hours for the last three days - dreading the bills!

My dad will be getting extra money towards his heating after this week on top of his winter heating payment already received (£200 I think he said)

feeling short-changed by a system that leaves those who have Chronic conditions worsened by the cold without any additional assistance unless they are 'really bad'(High rate DLA etc)

Sorry to moan ...... had a bad week! I know my hubby works, but I don't and am in the house all day! There are only so many thermals a girl can wear!!!!!!!!

(cuddling the dog to keep warm is ok when she agrees!!!)

i really do wish we could all get help with heating costs, i'm getting dla high rate mobility and low rate care and like you all i need the heating on in the day as i feel the cold in my joints, i don't get income support because hubby works but our incomes are low. i am also dreading the next bill, i really think the goverment or whoever deals with such things should look at the whole benefit system, whether you work or are unable to do if you have health issues that are affected by cold / damp weather and you struggle with the bills there should be some help available, sorry rant over!!!
