    Hi Kezzo
    happy new year!
I don't know why they are so effective - but they are!!!
I know they're not good for us long term though :(
    Have you just had one?
    Take care

    hey kezzo,

I have been asking the same questions for 20 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ask one of those quack Rheumies and listen to the rhetoric.......Talk to a Humira or Embrel sales representative and hear the mumbo jumbo of their pitch.....I agree with you and there has to be a way to reduce the side effects of steroids and let people get on with a good life.
    Glad you brought it up!

I love steroids, they make me feel like Wonder Woman!

I feel completely normal and healthy and they even affect my mood, they make me feel so happy

I really wish I could have them once a month! Surely with all the medical knowledge in the world there must be something they can give us to protect our bones from the steroids if the steroids make us better?!?!

Hi Guys, i think its a question on all our minds i did ask and was told no that they are bad for you long term. Its the best thing since sliced bread i started off on 80mg depot injection it lasted for about 12 weeks then i got another again it lasted for 12 weeks or so then after about 12 months i got another 80mg because of a flair up and it never worked the following week i got another 80mg it worked great for about 4 weeks and the come down was awfull. about 4 months later i had another flair and got 160mg injection. The side effects where bad thought i was loosing my mind boy does that stuff play with you brain. anyway to cut a long story short i ended up in hospital because of it. I'm now on a low dose of prednislone daily but dont like it. However i agree with you all it does make you feel rather good. I have been offerd it since but refused because of the side effects last time i had the large dose. take care all

    Hi Colin,

I take the preds. too but I know, I don't like to stay over 10 mgs very long, like a few weeks. I met a person who was prescribed up to 60mgs for over a year and she just said she couldn't get off them but the side effects were very evident. Sorry to hear about your reaction from the injections. I think the rheumies are injecting a variety of steroid meds., but I don't know if it makes any difference. I had a Dr. that injected in multiple joints with smaller quanties and I found that effective and I wish he was still close by.

From what my rheumy said steroid injections will become less effective the more they're used. An injection that worked wonders and lasted, say, 12 weeks would possibly only last 10 weeks if repeated and would get less and less the more often they're used. One of the side effects is also thinning of the bones (if I remember correctly) which could cause problems with joint replacements.

I hope I'm right on this, it would explain why our rheumys are so cautious, for once it's not to do with cost
