I'm due to have both knees replaced in same op at moment on waiting list but hope around March. Both knees are shot could have just one done but don't think the remaining one will manage the extra work  Can anyone who has been through this give me some feedback when back at work etc? Know we are all different but not good at been stuck at home get very down mentally. Just love my RA

I had bi-lateral knee replacements eight years ago and haven't looked back. I was in hospital for 12 days, although they may not keep you in as long nowadays. I had some physio before the operation to help to build the muscles as much as possible and afterwards did my exercises religously in order to gain maximum range of movement.
It's a bit tough and painful the first few times you have to weight bear on your new knees but it does improve each day. For me the pain didn't disappear overnight as I expected it was a more of a gradual process. I was walking around the house without sticks within about two weeks but that was because of the arthritis in my arms made me clumsy with the sticks and I kept tripping on them - I was much safer without them
I can't advise much about going back to work as I'm registered disabled and work from home but I was more or less back to normal by about six weeks. I would add that we're all different so don't hold other people up as a yardstick, you're better off knowing your own capabilities rather than pushing yourself to compete with others.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.
