Hi all, ive just been diagnosed with OA, I am having physio now for about 6 weeks, one of the excersises is to lie on your back, knees bent, pull in tummy muscles and raise your pelvis into the air, now when you have OA in your spine this aint easy, anyway he gave me a dumb bell yesterday so that the lifting is heavier, I only did two of them but could not get out of bed at all this morning, does anyone have pain the morning after excersise?
I only joined the Arthritis care just last month and am going to the group next week, its once a month and I am really looking forward to it, but have been told I will be the youngest there! Im 47!

Hi Sue
I was always in quite a bit of pain after a nhs physio session, they pushed me too hard too soon. Got so bad in the end my consultant stopped it as he said it was doing more harm than good. You could try telling physio that the weights are too much for you to handle right now. I have had a few private sessions which were much better but too expensive. I enjoyed Pilates and was never in pain after that.

Hi Vonski,
thank you for your reply, I am going to try pilates. the physio said hes going to give me a tens machine, I am a bit dubious as all this is alien to me, im going to ring my local sports centre now to check out the pilates. thanks once again sue0 -
Some pain after physio is normal but you should discuss this with the physio. I have oa of the spine and have in the past, found physio very helpful, but you need to be able to talk to them and they should ask you about pain levels, mine did.
I'm waiting to go back now, as I have developed oa in the neck. Hope they can help me this time. I think it can depend on whether you trust the person giving you treatment. Some are better than others :? Hope you find some help soon! Suexxx0 -
Hi Sue,
I developed an awful pain in my back near my shoulder blades that plagued me for days until it gradually subsided and finally went - I worked out it was because I'd had a new office chair and I was sitting differently
Sometimes even the smallest thing can make the arthritis rebel :x
Once a student rheumatalogist asked if he could 'examine' my ankles, it didn't hurt whilst he tried to manipulate them but the next day I could hardly put my my feet to the ground  - so take care with the exercises, even if you don't seem to be overdoing it at the time you may find you suffer later.

Hi Sue, like the others say, talk to the physio. I myself had the same prob with a recent physio, the whole team seem a bit gunge ho, I was laid off when it was found I needed an op. Following this I am going to another team for my physio. Linda0
