hi everyone, i've been taking mtx tabs since sept. last year, am now up to 15mg. but i'm still having problems with the sickly headaches i get. i've just got over the worst migraine and these tablets definately don't help where that's concerned. i'm seriously thinking of asking to come off these drugs, as, although they're controlloing my psoriasis and arthritis, i am struggling daily with the headaches. i'd appreciate any ideas or input anyone has.

I'm on methotrexate 17.5mg and have finally found relief from months of agony and exhaustion with my RA. Because I've been well, I actually forgot to take my NSAID, meloxicam, 2 days ago. As I got through the day fairly well, and even drove 50 miles, I decided to miss the NSAID today too. HOWEVER for the past 2 days I have had a cracking headache. I am therefore thinking about taking another meloxicam tonight or tomorrow, just for the headache, even though my joints are 'fine' (not really fine, but you know what I mean).
Sooooooo....... perhaps you could try something like this for your headache???? My rheumy nurse said they try not to drop the dose of mtx down, once your RA is stable on it, because you can get a bad flare.
If you can't cope with the headaches though, have a chat with the nurses, maybe they will suggest something else.
Hope this helps.

Hi Alison, I would suggest a chat with your gp or Rheumy Nurse, if you have one, about your headaches, but at the end of the day it might be up to your Rheumy to decide whether you stop, they might decide it is doing you good, I don't know love Jaspercatxx0

Hi Alison,
Are you on any antimetics, to stop you feeling sick, if not you could consider asking your GP about having some? When I was suffering from the sickly headache side effects my doctor put me on Domperidone. I was able to wean myself off them fairly quickly once the side effects settled down.
It would be a shame to stop the Mtx now after it taking so long to get into your system and if your joints are feeling the benefit. Although in saying that sickly headaches are miserable and I can well understand your dilemma. :?

Hi Alison I've been on Mxt for three years along with lots of other stuff. Its not a nice drug and yes i suffer bad with the side effects. I put up with it because at first it worked and like you it got controle of my arthritis and psoriasis. today i can-not find a spot of psoriasis on my body. It no longer seems to work on the RA and PA anymore so i'm on Embrel as well. Anyway back to your question. All drugs have a side effect it just depends how ill it makes you feel , its not much fun when the cure is worse than the illness. The other thing is we are all different and respond different to the drugs some people dont suffer with Mxt whilst others do. The other thing is there is always another tablet to help with remedy. I once got my Mxt cut to 15mg But then had to take one anti sickness 2 celebrexx and 1 losec this along with the pain killers, prednisolone, sleeping tablets, calcichew and all the other stuff made me worse LOL Have a good chat with the nurse or Rheumy i'm sure they will help Its hard to strike up a balance between whats best and it is trial and error untill they find a drug that works without causing to many problems.
Hope you get sorted take care
